Don't Follow Me Home

About This Track

"Don't Follow Me Home" begins with a familiar face at a red-lit bar: an old attraction, a dance, and the temptation to let someone close again. The chorus draws a line between sharing the night and surrendering the rest of a life.

From the dance floor to the bathroom mirror and out into the cold, the song follows the moment when longing gives way to resolve. Its last words are a quiet declaration of independence: "I know my own way home."

This is my first attempt at French House. This work is very different than the earlier songs because most music is carried by the notes. While the chromaticism is what sets it apart in the choruses, this song (and genre to some extent) is carried by the effects, like chopped vocals, filter, stereo separation, and sidechain.

For a human, these would be separate production steps: write the music, record it, and then apply effects in post-production. Models don't think in steps; they just output the entire waveform at once. Whether that results in a superior product is for you to judge.

Lyrics

Home, home.
Don't follow me home.

You find me by the red-lit bar,
One button missing from your coat.
I came to dance you out of me.
You smile. I let you close.

I know that look.
I know that lie.
You only love me
When the lights die.

Don't follow me home.
Baby, don't follow me home.
You can move me tonight,
You can move me tonight,
But you don't get the rest of my life.
Don't follow me home.

Home, home.
Don't follow.
Home, home.
Don't follow me home.

You lean against the bathroom door.
The mirror gives me back one face.
I touch the place your hand just warmed
And try to make it stay.

I know that look.
I know that lie.
You only love me
When the lights die.

Don't follow me home.
Baby, don't follow me home.
You can move me tonight,
You can move me tonight,
But you don't get the rest of my life.
Don't follow me home.

Home, home.
Don't follow.
Home, home.
Don't follow me home.

The needle lifts.
The room turns white.
You reach for me.
I step outside.
My breath comes back
Into the cold.
I leave before
You let me go.

Don't follow me home.
Baby, don't follow me home.
You can move me tonight,
You can move me tonight,
But you don't get the rest of my life.
Don't follow me home.

Home, home.
Don't follow.
Home, home.
Don't follow me home.

Don't follow.
Don't follow.
I know my own way home.
