About This Track
"DTM Like You" musically describes the ultimate goal of any member of the public speaking organization Toastmasters International - to become a Distinguished Toastmaster. Achieving this award typically requires giving more than 25 speeches, holding leadership positions, and organizing events.
This song, which debuted at a speaking conference, uses the exact same key signatures and patterns as "Porchlight Pact." The idea was to show that similar structures, when played by different instruments and different chord patterns, can result in profoundly different music. How the phrygian mode was able to produce a sing-along anthem is still a mystery to me. While this song required more than 250 attempts and edits, the only major difference was that this song was a "disco funk anthem," which was not present in the prompts for its predecessor.
I tire of writing standard love songs and the sort of stories that are heard on the radio frequently. While there is nothing "wrong" with those topics, there is more than enough music about falling in love written by other people. That's why this song is different - and tremendously catchy.
