About This Track
Souls Align was an experiment to create an atmospheric house track with "unique sounds." The goal was to get the Udio model, which was used for this track, to output sounds that hadn't been used before in popular music. Could the model create something outside of the pianos, violins, guitars, and sythesized instruments that were present in its training data?
The steel drum-like sound is one successful example. Surprisingly, this song was easier to generate than other works, costing only $10 in computational time.
The lyrics for this song were not the intended lyrics from the start. Unlike typical songwriting where one can separate the music from the singing, that isn't possible in AI music generation, and the hook surprised me, requiring a rewrite around its lyrics. The first chorus you hear was actually the second; a previous less complicated chorus was cut.
It was difficult to figure out how to conclude this song. There were two choices - the one you currently hear, with C major chords in the background, and another all-out version with massive harmony and a chior. Ultimately, the juxstaposition of the key change and maintaining the minimalist atmosphere was decided to be best.
